Tips for producing poster files to be printed on the Encad inkjet printer: 1) Use FrameMaker or a suitable page layout program to create your poster. While Microsoft PowerPoint is not intended to be a layout program, it is relatively easy to learn and can suffice as a "quick and dirty" method for poster production. PowerPoint files will be accepted for output. 2) Create your document at its intended final size from the beginning. The maximum size is 40 inches wide. Keep in mind that what looks fine on an 8.5 x 11 inch page may lose quality when enlarged. As obvious as this might seem, it is easy to overlook. 3) Import charts and graphs using original vector file formats when possible, such as eps, or Postscript (yes, PowerPoint can import .eps files). Any type of rasterized image file format such as gif, jpeg, or tiff should be considered a solution of last resort for the importing of graphs and charts that contain curves. 4) Most layout programs, including FrameMaker will Œsave ası or write out files in Portable Document Format or PDF. THIS IS GOOD. If PowerPoint is used, we prefer to convert the native .ppt file on our end. The best method for all transfers is to put the file on cauldron.stsci.edu/World and send an email to: westphal@stsci.edu or bedke@stsci.edu telling us that this has been done, what the file name is, what is required, and when it is needed. 5) Turn-around time can range from next day to two weeks depending on demand and unexpected technical difficulties. Please do not wait until the last minute
